Swim, cycle and run – it’s Ironman Wales 2012

Most people come to Pembrokeshire to rest, unwind and enjoy the tranquility of the stunning coast and countryside. But this weekend will see some adrenalin junkies heading here to take part in what is one of the toughest events of its kind – Ironman Wales.

It’s exhausting just thinking about the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run that hundreds of competitors undertake, starting on Tenby beach before heading off into the spectacular neighbouring countryside.

But here at Bluestone National Park Resort we’ll be welcoming some of the competitors this weekend, their friends and family and, of course, many spectators.

We wish them all best of luck as they attempt to take the top title, as well as those who simply see it as a challenge to take part in.

Get into the free range summer festival mood with Ryan Jones

It’s all about summer festival fun here at Bluestone this August. But don’t just take our word for it… Welsh rugby international and Ospreys No.8 Ryan Jones has been finding out for himself, and he loved it.

Our Summer Festival is all about getting the family together for some free range fun activities and enjoying the carnival atmosphere in the spectacular 500 acres of Pembrokeshire countryside we have here.

Ryan decided to come to Bluestone after his hectic rugby season – what with the Six Nations and all that – and the Wales tour Down Under. What better way to relax and recover than a luxury short break at Bluestone National Park Resort!

“When you’ve been playing all season, then having the Six Nations Grand Slam success before the tour Down Under, there comes a time when you just need to say ‘right, we’re getting away to chill.’ And that’s what we’ve done at Bluestone,” said Ryan.

“But as usual I can’t sit still and the preparations for the Bluestone Summer Festival looked like a bit of an opportunity to have some fun. We’ve been trying out the samba drum session which is just great – plenty of energy used and a lot of fun – as well as loads of other activities.”

More fun than an action-packed family movie!

In his second blog post of the week, Welsh tenor Wynne Evans, better known as Gio Compario from the famous insurance comparison site adverts, tells us about his mid-week short break here at Bluestone this week. Yesterday he had even more fun at the Blue Lagoon waterpark before an action-packed activity at the Steep Ravine that was more fun than an action-packed family movie.

“The kids very kindly got me up at 6:30am yesterday – one holding my

trunks and the other my goggles. So at 9am when the pool opened we were one of the first in. Being a ‘local’ West Walian boy, people who come into swim for the day from West Wales know me without the moustache.

“So I get quite a few people singing ‘GoCompare’ quietly just after I’ve passed them in the lazy river… I never know quite what to do, sometimes I smile like it’s the first time I’ve ever heard that and then sometimes I just pretend that I’ve got water in my ear and I’m temporarily deaf.
