Eight celebrities, one language – one massive challenge! Oh and the chance to win a break at Bluestone

Following on from the success of S4C’s Cariad@iaith:love4language last year, the series is heading back to the screens and Bluestone National Park Resort is pleased to be supporting it by offering the runner up a luxury break in a Ramsey Lodge.

This year CBeebies presenter Alex Winters; BBC Wales news presenter, Lucy Owen, BBC news, Scrum V and BBC Wales sports presenter Lisa Rogers; tenor Wynne Evans (or Gio Compario from the TV ads) rugby legend Gareth Thomas; former X-Factor contestant Lucie Jones; actor Robert Pugh and actress Di Botcher are all competing to learn as much Welsh in one week.

Cariad@Iaith Love4Language line up 2012

On Wednesday, 23rd and Thursday, 24th May there’s a chance to get to know the eight a little better in two preview programs. Then from Saturday, 26th to Thursday, 31st May, join Nia Parry and Gareth Roberts each night as they present live from Fforest Camp near Cilgerran.

Last year Bluestone National Park Resort was delighted to be involved and gave a holiday to the lucky runner up which turned out to be TV presenter Josie D’Arby. We’ll be publishing her blog on her stay with us later this week.

So make sure you switch on to Cariad@iaith:love4language on S4C – and maybe you can learn some Welsh too?

Rhod Gilbert, Battenberg and Bluestone…. Free range fun – naturally.

It’s not often you can put comedian Rhod Gilbert, Battenberg cake and Bluestone National Park Resort all into the same sentence – but we just have.

Rhod Gilbert and Bluestone

And the reason for this is a great new partnership between Bluestone and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff which was endorsed by Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert, currently on his latest UK tour, The Man with the Flaming Battenberg Tattoo.

As part of our ‘Free Range’ family fun short breaks here at Bluestone in Pembrokeshire, we’ve teamed up with our friends at the Wales Millennium Centre to celebrate its Family Days events taking place over the summer.

And our Head of Marketing, Yvonne Buckingham, had the first taste of Battenberg cake to celebrate the partnership closely watched by Rhod and others. Yes, Yvonne had really never tasted Battenberg cake before! She doesn’t know what she’s missed!

Since fronting a Visit Wales TV commercial, Carmarthenshire born Rhod has become an unofficial ambassador for tourism in Wales, making him the perfect choice to seal the deal on this new partnership between the Wales Millennium Centre (Wales’ No 1 visitor attraction) and Bluestone National Park Resort. 50 things to do before you’re 11¾ at Bluestone National Park Resort

It’s great to see the National Trust launching its ’50 things to do before you’re 11¾’. Our motto here at Bluestone National Park is ‘Let’s Play’ with ‘Free Range’  short break holidays in Pembrokeshire.

Children enjoying a free range short break holiday at Bluestone National Park ResortAnd that’s all about children of all ages having the chance to undertake activities that might never have the chance to do at home – from making campfires, building tree houses, having adventures in the woods, kayaking on our lake, looking for bugs under stones and even whizzing down zip wires.

We’re a firm believer in letting kids have a free range of opportunities that let them fulfil their adventurous side.

Action woodland survival before a relaxing spa treatment

In his final blog post for Bluestone Blog, Welsh tenor Wynne Evans, also known as Gio Compario from the famous comparison website TV adverts, describes a fun-packed day which included the Steep Ravine and Blue Lagoon waterpark and ended with a relaxing treatment at Bluestone’s The Well Spa.

”Well madness struck this very morning and I ended up going for a run.  The weather was gorgeous, although I think if I ever go on Gladiators my nickname might be ‘The Slug’.

”The kids went off on a Woodland Survival activity at the Steep Ravine. They started off by painting their faces with stripes, so they could ‘blend in’, and then set off into the woods for three hours via a 120 metre zip wire. Upon their return they told me they had made shelters, made a fire, made bread and had a lunch of burgers and baked potatoes at Camp Smokey. They were very excited, though they were to cool to show it too much.

High Ropes at Bluestone ”Whilst they were off doing that Mrs E went to watch her dad on the High Ropes – he lived, which was a definite bonus. So, being wife, children and in-law free I took myself to The Well Spa for a bit of relaxation.  For £25 I had the use of the salt room, two different steam rooms and saunas (one is never enough), and finished it all off in the ice room. After all of that I sat in the outdoor pool, which shot jets of water at me from all directions. It was really relaxing… so it was time to meet up with the in laws and the kids.

Alun, Barbara and Daisy!

Enjoying his third day here at Bluestone, Wynne Evans and his family aka Gio Compario from the famous insurance adverts fills us in on the fun and adventures that the whole family has been having – Yesterday he went from Blue Lagoon swimmer to a Woodland Warrior Rambo wannabe!

This morning started with a bit of tree climbing…….Not for me but my 8 year old son – lots of tension as we all cheered every climber as he hit the top of the tree.

Then we hit the bikes….Thanks to Alun and Barbara up at the bike shop for fixing my puncture, I’ve got mixed feelings about it really as it was a great excuse for Mrs. E to trot off with the kids and me go to the Tafarn – still they meant well! Thanks guys. My son is at the stage where he is just learning to ride a two wheeler, so we spend quite a lot of time going VERY slow and the rest of the time chasing a bike that’s completely out of control.
