Television presenter Josie d’Arby gets together with sisters at Bluestone and gets fit

For the second year running we’re very pleased to be associated with S4C’s Cariad@Iaith:Love4language programme which starts this week. Last year’s runner-up, TV presenter Josie d’Arby won a break here at Bluestone National Park Resort.

Josie D'Arby and Bluestone National Park ResortShe’ll be trying to catch up on this year’s programme which includes BBC CBeebies presenter Alex Winters; BBC Wales Scrum V and Sports Wales presenter Lisa Rogers; Welsh tenor Wynne Evans – or Gio Compario from the TV ads; BBC Wales news presenter, Lucy Owen; rugby legend Gareth Thomas; former X-Factor contestant Lucie Jones; actor Robert Pugh and actress Di Botcher.

Here she tells the Bluestone Blog about her stay here at Bluestone and what a great prize it was to win – helping get together with her sisters for their first holiday together and how they got fit in the process:

“The five days I spent at Bluestone National Park Resort in West Wales was a definite treat, not least because of its fantastic location close to the beautiful west Wales coast.

“I went with my three sisters and it was the first trip, just the four of us, we had taken away as adults ever. Funny how that happens … we took the two and a half hour drive arrived at the resort in time to have a welcome cup of tea before heading to our lodge to unpack. I will never forget the look on my sisters faces as we approached our two bedroom Ramsey Lodge. “I hope that ones ours,” said my sister Ruth, and sure enough it was.

“We piled in like kids again on a school trip and picked our rooms. I went upstairs to unpack the groceries into perfectly sized modern kitchen … the upside down living really suited us. I thought it might feel strange but in truth it felt perfectly natural. My sisters and I had decided to use this week as a time to get fitter and healthier and I myself had been focusing on health and fitness for my whole family and had done some research as a fitness and nutrition adviser.

“A 20 minute drive away and we were at the midst of the dramatic cliff faces of the stunning Welsh coastline for a wonderful and challenging five mile walk through breathtaking scenery. This was such fun, and the weather made it invigorating too. Back at the resort we did aqua aerobics in the evening in the Blue Lagoon, and if we ran out of supplies everything we needed was on site in the village shop.

“After all that hard work , on our last morning we rewarded ourselves with indulgent treatments at the on site Well Spa. I had a much need massage with warm essential oils – heavenly.  The spa was perfect , a little haven in the midst of this joyous site. At the end of the five days between them my three sisters had lost 18lbs !!!

“I kid you not, a combination of me being very strict but also the location inspiring them to go further than they had before in a way that focused us on health we all left there walking on air and feeling lighter in more ways than one. We made a pack to try and do this at least once every year. A special time together at a very special place for us.
